Choosing Your Ideal Carry: A Shin Sedai Buyer’s Guide

Choosing a backpack is a personal decision that balances ergonomics, volume, and aesthetic. To help you find the right fit among our collection, we have answered the most common questions our community asks about modern everyday carry.

What size backpack do I actually need?

  • Backpack capacity is measured in liters, and choosing the right volume depends entirely on your use. Generally, a versatile daily-use backpack for commuting, school, or work falls within the 15-30L range. Here is how to find your perfect fit:
    • Minimalist & Light Commuter (15-20L): Perfect for those who travel light and fast. This size comfortably fits a 13-inch laptop, a tablet, a notebook, and your essential water bottle. If you only carry the digital basics, this slim profile is your best match.
    • Student & Office Professional (20-30L): This is the “standard” size for most users. It offers enough depth to hold a 15-inch laptop, several textbooks or notebooks, your lunch, and a light jacket or sweater. It’s the ideal balance of storage and portability.
    • Active Daily User (30L+): If your day doesn’t end at the office or campus, you need the extra room. A 30L+ pack is suitable for commuting with gym gear, a change of shoes, or specialized camera equipment alongside your tech.

How should a backpack properly fit?

  • To avoid back strain, your backpack should sit between your shoulder blades and your waist. The straps should be adjusted so the bag is snug against your back, preventing it from swaying as you move.

How do I maintain and clean my backpack?

  • To preserve the weather-resistant coating on your gear, we recommend:
    1. Spot Cleaning: Use a damp cloth and mild soap for everyday dirt.
    2. Air Dry Only: Never put your backpack in a dryer, as high heat can damage the internal tech sleeves and waterproof linings.
    3. Zip Care: Periodically wipe the zippers to remove dust or grit, ensuring a smooth glide every time.

What do your backpack attributes mean?

  • Ergonomic Design: the straps and back panel are shaped to match the natural curves of your body, reducing strain on your neck and shoulders during long commutes.
  • Breathable: there are “airflow channels” or moisture-wicking mesh on the back panel. This allows air to circulate between the bag and your body, preventing heat buildup and keeping you cool.
  • Waterproof: the backpack has specialized coatings (like PU or DWR) that repel water. This ensures that moisture from rain or spills cannot penetrate the fabric, keeping your electronics bone-dry.
  • Shock-Absorbing: the use of dense, high-rebound foam padding that “absorbs” the impact if you drop your bag or set it down too hard, protecting your belongings from damage.
  • Wear-Resistant: measured by “denier” (fabric density), this means our materials are designed to resist scuffs, tears, and abrasions from daily contact with rough surfaces like pavement or subway floors.
  • Stain-Resistant: the backpack’s outer shell makes it difficult for dirt, coffee, or mud to set into the fabric, allowing you to simply wipe away messes.
  • Convertible: a backpack with this attribute allows you to wear or carry it in different ways. It can easily turn into a crossbody bag or a hand carry duffel bag.
